Plantar fasciitis and osteopathy
Yes, we treat plantar fasciitis.
Plantar fasciitis is when the tissue on the bottom of your foot becomes inflamed. You may feel pain under your heel. It is often worse in the morning, after prolonged standing, or after intense activity.
What causes plantar fasciitis
There are many risk factors that can make you more susceptible to plantar fasciitis. These include:
- Age – more common in people between the ages of 40 – 60
- Exercise – running, dancing, aerobics and other activities that involve jumping
- Foot mechanics – high arches, flat footed, tight or weak calf muscles
- Daily lifestyle – time spent on feet and especially on hard surfaces
How is plantar fasciitis treated
Our osteos may be able to assist. We start our treatment by asking questions about your pain type, how long you’ve had it, whether it’s constant or worse at specific times. We will then ask questions to understand your lifestyle, including what your daily activities look like, the sports you play, and the shoes you wear. From there, our treatment plan may include one or more of the following:
- Hands-on treatment including stretching and soft tissue massage

- Using our shockwave machine
- Assessing your lifestyle, specifically your shoes
- Exercise prescription, which may include:
– daily use of massage ball on the sole of your foot
– calf raisers
– foam rolling calves
– exercising the toes by picking up a towel
– pulling your toes back with a towel
– prancing on our reformer machine
